How the Broadwater behaves
The Broadwater swings between clean and stained depending on the tide and recent rain. The run-in tide off the Seaway drags clear ocean water over the seagrass - that is your window. Deeper in the estuary and after rain the water colours up, which flips you toward brighter jigs. Either way, the seagrass edge is the target: tiger squid ambush from the weed, so fish the margins and sand holes, not open flats.
Best time and tide

3.0 to 3.5 suits the Broadwater’s tiger squid and the run of current through the Seaway, dropping to 2.5 in shallow, calm, clear water on the banks. Over shallow seagrass, a slow-sink jig holds above the weed longer; step up the weight where current runs harder near the Seaway. Run light PE 0.6-0.8 braid with a fluorocarbon leader.

The Broadwater is busy with boats, jet skis and wash, especially on weekends - hold your line, give craft room, and fish the quieter early and late windows. The seagrass is protected habitat, so fish it without damaging it and take all ink, line and rubbish home. On rock walls and higher edges, use a landing net or a squid gaff rather than lifting squid by the line, and watch your footing at the Seaway.
